What is fencing?

Fencing is an Olympic sport involving competition using one of three weapons: foil, epée or sabre. Each weapon has its own distinct rules, but they share a goal: to score a touch on your opponent without being hit yourself.

Jake Zehr made this video at our club, which gives an excellent introduction:

Learn fencing with us!

We hold beginner class sessions every September and January. Classes are open to anyone 13 years or older. Classes are held Wednesday evenings, last for 8 weeks, and include a month’s membership after the class and all equipment for $60.

The Capital City Fencers’ Club gratefully acknowledges the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia

We are a member-run non-profit organization!

Members run Capital City Fencers’ Club. If you fence with us you have a vote in our general meeting and elections, and you can stand for election to our board. Our members set club fees and approve the club budget at the AGM. Read our bylaws and AGM minutes on the documents page.

Our excellent volunteers run beginner classes, repair equipment, and help with tournaments. And we are grateful for the support from Province of British Columbia and ViaSport! Volunteers and grants help us keep our club affordable and accessible to everyone! We don’t want fees to be a barrier to fencing… if you need additional assistance to enroll your kids in our programs, we encourage you to apply KidSport as we are an eligible group for use of this fund. (And if you can afford it, consider donating to KidSport who do such great work!)

In 2021 we also received a grant from the Active Girls program at KidSport, which will enable us to hold an all-girls fencing clinic and promote girls involvement in our awesome sport!
