Program description

We run two sections to allow smaller class size in the first four lessons, and then move on to fencing with the full beginner group, and ultimately fencing with the club general membership. Beginners are invited to our Beginners Invitational tournament, which includes beginners from all local clubs and fencing classes.

Beginner Program Components:

  • COMPONENT 1: Four two-hour instructional sessions in smaller groups introducing the basics of foil fencing footwork, parries, and rules. You will also learn how to use fencing equipment, and how to connect to the electric scoring machines. These are either Monday (8:00 – 10:00 pm) starting January 22 or Wednesday (7:30 – 9:30 pm) starting January 24, depending on your class section.
  • COMPONENT 2: Four two hour sessions of supervised participation in club fencing with all beginners (both sections) increasingly joining with other club members during regular practice on BOTH Monday and Wednesday nights.
  • COMPONENT 3: Fencing with the general club membership for March.

Policy on missing classes:

For safety reasons, attendance of “Component 1” is mandatory to participate in the subsequent components. If you are sick or must miss a class, please email cap.city.fencing@gmail.com or speak to your instructor to arrange to cover the required material.
